Did you know that there are currently about 500,000 registered sex offenders living in the United States right now? What if one of them lives in the house across the street from you? Makes you a little suspicious doesn’t it?
If the thought of living next to a former rapist or child molester scares you, there is a way to put your mind at ease. Just hop on your computer and check out the National Sex Offender List which contains detailed information on each of the half million registered sex offenders living in the US.
You’ll receive detailed information including their name, address, known aliases, and type of offense they were convicted of. This information is extremely valuable. Its always wise to be aware of your surroundings and informed of potential threats.
There are several websites that allow you to access the national sex offender list. All you have to do is enter your state or zip code and click on “Search”. In just a few seconds you’ll receive a list of offenders that live within that area. You will have to pay a one-time fee to access the full details of the report.
If I find someone I know on the list should I confront them?
Absolutely not. Not only is that potentially dangerous, its also illegal. The Department of Justice specifically states that anyone who uses the information contained in the national sex offender list “to threaten, intimidate, or harass any individual, including registrants or family members, or who otherwise misuses this information, may be subject to criminal prosecution or civil liability under federal and/or state law.”
